Nothing New Project

Starting today, October 10, 2006, I will not buy anything new that I cannot make or buy used. I will do this for one complete year.

HAIR

Since I started 'Nothing New' all of my purchasing habits have come under scrutiny, even my hair products. Must I always shampoo, condition, and then add large amounts of styling product? Is there another way?

I picked up a bottle of 'Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps: 18-in-1 Hemp Lavendar Pure-Castile Soap,' thinking I could use it for everything. Although it works great as a body soap, it doesn't cut it as a shampoo and it's too oily to use on my face. So I still have to use shampoo and conditioner, but I discovered I can get away with only washing my hair every few days. When I washed it every day, it would dry out because it's curly. And I can get away with not using a styling product. I think next time I'll just get the bar soap and try to use it on my face as well.

My new quest is for the perfect shampoo; one that's made of natural products and not tested on animals, (and still a good product!)

Thanks for the suggestion. I've seen that brand at the store and I'll have to try it next time I buy shampoo. I ended up purchasing Aveda because I know it's a good product and cruelty-free, however, it's questionable just how "natural" it is. (But it smells so good!)

Hi,
I worked with your Mom before she moved & she introduced me to your blog some time ago. I find your experiment very interesting & wish I had the discipline to do the same. Anyway I came across this website & thought it may be of interest to you.

P.S I think once you hair gets use to not being washed every day it will start to produce less oil & not need daily washings.
